Democratic Republic of the Congo

The Democratic Republic of the Congo lies in Central Africa, with much of the country spread across the broad Congo Basin. The Congo River and its many tributaries wind through an immense belt of tropical rainforest, while savannas open out farther south. In the east, the land rises towards the Virunga Mountains and a chain of deep lakes, creating a landscape very different from the low-lying centre.
