Republic of the Congo

The Republic of the Congo lies in Central Africa, with a short Atlantic coastline and the Congo River running along much of its eastern side. Tropical rainforest covers large areas in the north, forming part of the wider Congo Basin, while plateaus and wooded savannas spread across the centre and south. Near the coast, the land narrows into a low plain backed by the forested Mayombe hills.
