Ethiopia lies in the Horn of Africa, where the Ethiopian Highlands cover much of the centre and north of the country. The Great Rift Valley cuts through its interior, separating broad plateaus and mountain ranges, while Lake Tana feeds the Blue Nile in the northwest. Its landscapes also include the Simien and Bale mountains, the lakes of the Rift Valley, and the low-lying Danakil Depression.
