Iraq

Iraq lies in western Asia, where the Tigris and Euphrates flow southeast across the broad Mesopotamian plain. Mountains and foothills rise in the north and northeast, while dry plateaus and desert cover much of the west and south. Near the lower reaches of the rivers, lakes, reed beds, and wetlands form the Mesopotamian Marshes before the two rivers join and continue towards the Gulf.
