Kuwait lies at the northwestern edge of the Persian Gulf, where a low desert plain meets a long, gently curving coast. Much of the land is flat and dry, with gravel plains, sandy stretches, and shallow depressions shaped by wind and seasonal rain. Kuwait Bay cuts deep into the shoreline, while Bubiyan and Failaka are among the islands lying just offshore.
