Italy

Italy stretches from the Alps into the Mediterranean, with most of the country forming a long peninsula shaped like a boot. The Apennines run down its centre, and Sicily and Sardinia are its two largest islands. Much of its history remains visible in Roman ruins, medieval towns, and cities shaped by the Renaissance. Food, architecture, and even local speech can change significantly from one region to the next.
