Australia lies between the Indian and Pacific oceans, with a broad coastline surrounding a vast, dry interior known as the Outback. The Great Dividing Range follows much of the east, while the centre contains red deserts, salt lakes, and the sandstone formation of Uluru. Offshore, the Great Barrier Reef extends along Queensland, and Tasmania lies across Bass Strait to the south.
