About
The Dominican Republic occupies the eastern part of Hispaniola, between the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. The Cordillera Central crosses its interior and includes Pico Duarte, the highest mountain in the Caribbean, while the broad Cibao Valley lies to the north. Its landscapes also include long beaches, tropical forests, dry southwestern valleys, and Lake Enriquillo below sea level.
