Mauritania

Mauritania lies between the Sahara and the Atlantic, with desert covering most of the country. In the north, the Adrar Plateau rises above sweeping dunes and contains the circular Richat Structure, a vast geological formation visible from space. Along the coast, the shallow waters, sandbanks, and islands of Banc d’Arguin contrast with the arid interior, while the Senegal River brings greener landscapes to the south.
