Sao Tome and Principe

São Tomé and Príncipe lies in the Gulf of Guinea near the equator, with two main volcanic islands and several smaller islets. Steep, forested mountains rise from the coast, including Pico de São Tomé, the highest point in the archipelago. Deep valleys, rocky headlands, sheltered bays, and striking volcanic formations such as Pico Cão Grande give the islands a varied landscape within a compact area.
