Cyprus lies in the eastern Mediterranean, with a coastline of sandy bays, rocky headlands, and sheltered coves. The Troodos Mountains rise across the centre and southwest of the island, reaching their highest point at Mount Olympus, while the narrower Kyrenia Range runs close to the northern coast. Between them, the broad Mesaoria plain extends across the interior of the island.
