Martinique

Martinique is a mountainous Caribbean island, with the Caribbean Sea to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. Mount Pelée rises in the north above steep volcanic slopes and dense forests, while the Pitons du Carbet form a cluster of peaks farther south. In the southern part of the island, the land becomes lower and drier, with sheltered bays, sandy beaches, and the wide inlet of Fort-de-France Bay.
