New Caledonia

New Caledonia lies in the southwest Pacific, east of Australia, and includes the long main island of Grande Terre alongside the Loyalty Islands, the Isle of Pines, and smaller islands. A mountain range runs along Grande Terre, with narrow coastal plains, rivers, forests, and areas of dry woodland. Much of the island group is surrounded by a broad lagoon and an extensive barrier reef.
